NEVER GO ANYWHERE WITH A STRANGER. Remind the child that she should never get into someone’s car unless you say it’s okay. Tell her never to help a stranger (with directions, or to find a lost dog) unless you’re with her.
STAY CLOSE BY. Before each outing, remind the child that he needs to stay close to you, and explain that this is so he doesn’t get lost. It will be easier for you to keep him near if you make sure he stays busy during your outings.
KEEP AN EYE ON ME. Teach the child that she should always be able to see you and be heard by you. If the swings are on the other side of the playground, don’t let the child go there unless she can see you clearly (and call for you) from that distance. It goes without saying that the same holds true for you.
